In 2016, Chinese investment in Australia was an incredible $15.4 billion (AUD). This is the highest rate of investment since the global financial crisis back in 2008. A recent report from KPMG and the University of Sydney’s China Studies Centre has shown how Chinese investment in Australia is at an all time high of $118 million total new investment since 2007.
This places Australia as the second highest destination for Chinese investment only surpassed by the USA with a whopping $45 billion USD (~$59 billion AUD). Commercial real estate is still the most attractive form of investment with 36% and a steady 10% increase each year since 2013. Energy surpassed mining as a preferred segment attracting $1.149 billion.
